Baseline ("Baseline," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Bound Studios, LLC, a California limited liability company based in Irvine, California. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Baseline mobile application (the "App"), how we use it, and the choices you have.
Our philosophy is simple: Baseline exists to help you rebuild your dopamine baseline, not to monetize your attention or your data. We collect the minimum information needed to make the App work, we don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Activity logs. The healthy activities you choose to log in the App (e.g., exercise, sleep, meditation, meals, social connection) and the date and time you log them.
- Mood entries. Optional mood logs, if you choose to track them.
- Account information. Baseline requires an active subscription to use the App. When you subscribe, we automatically create a Baseline account using your email address so your data can be backed up and synced across devices — this happens for every subscriber, not as an optional step.
- Support communications. If you contact us at hello@baselineapp.net we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
Information generated by the App
- Ecosystem progress. Your lake level, zone unlocks, wildlife sightings, growth states, and in-app balances (Drops and Ripples).
- Settings and preferences. Notification preferences, display settings, and similar configuration choices.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active Baseline subscription. Baseline is subscription-based, and an active subscription is required to use the App. Payment is processed entirely by Apple — we never see or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details.
Information collected automatically
- Diagnostic data. Crash reports and performance data that help us fix bugs and keep the App running smoothly.
- Usage analytics. Limited, aggregated, anonymized usage data — such as how often features are used, retention rates, and general engagement patterns. This data is not tied to your identity, and you can opt out of analytics at any time in Settings.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, or files.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not collect data from third-party data brokers.
- We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
2. Where Your Data Is Stored
Local-first, with automatic backup. Your Baseline data — activity logs, mood entries, and ecosystem progress — is stored locally on your device as the primary copy, so the App works fully offline. As a subscriber, that same data is also automatically backed up to our cloud infrastructure (Google Firebase), so you can restore it if you reinstall the App or switch devices. Cloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above only to:
- Provide the App's core functionality — displaying your lake ecosystem, calculating zone unlocks and growth, and showing your history and stats;
- Sync your data across devices and restore backups;
- Provide insights about your patterns within the App;
- Manage your subscription status (payment itself is handled by Apple);
- Send notifications you have opted into, such as gentle daily reminders;
- Respond to support requests;
- Fix bugs, improve performance, and understand aggregate usage of the App; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
What we never do
- We never sell your personal information.
- We never share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We never show you ads.
- We never use your health and wellness data for marketing.
- We never track you across other apps or websites.
4. When We Share Information
We share information only with the service providers necessary to run the App, and only to the extent needed:
- Apple. Processes all payments and subscriptions through the App Store under Apple's own privacy policy.
- Google Firebase (Google LLC). Provides our cloud infrastructure for account authentication, encrypted cloud backups for every subscriber, crash reporting, and anonymized analytics. Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider and is not permitted to use it for its own purposes.
We may also disclose information if required to do so by law — for example, in response to a valid legal process — or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Baseline. If Baseline or Bound Studios, LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not share your personal information with anyone else.
5. Data Retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete it or delete the App. If you delete the App without cloud backup enabled, your data is permanently erased.
Cloud backup data is retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, your cloud data is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.
Anonymized analytics are not linked to your identity and may be retained in aggregate form.
Support emails are retained as long as needed to resolve your request and for reasonable recordkeeping.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Regardless of where you live, we extend the same core rights to every Baseline user:
- Access and export. You can export all of your data at any time in JSON/CSV format via Settings → Export Data.
- Deletion. You can delete your data at any time — delete local data in Settings or by deleting the App, and delete your account and all cloud data via Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing hello@baselineapp.net
- Correction. You can edit or delete individual activity and mood logs directly in the App.
- Analytics opt-out. You can turn off analytics at any time in Settings.
- Notifications. You can disable notifications in Settings or in your device's system settings.
- Subscription cancellation. You can cancel your Baseline subscription at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings. Cancellation stops future billing; it does not automatically delete your data.
We will never discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
California residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) may provide you additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of anyone under 16. To exercise any right, email hello@baselineapp.net. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
Users in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom
If you are located in the EEA or UK, we process your personal data on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the App and your subscription), your consent (optional features like mood tracking, analytics, and notifications, which you may withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests (keeping the App secure and functional). You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Data stored in our cloud infrastructure may be processed on servers located in the United States; where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption of cloud data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls limiting who can reach production systems, and secure authentication for cloud accounts. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we design Baseline so that your most sensitive data stays on your device by default.
If we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
8. A Note on Health and Wellness Data
Baseline is a wellness and habit-tracking app. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a substitute for professional care. The information you log in Baseline is not protected health information under HIPAA, because Baseline is not a healthcare provider or health plan. We treat your wellness data with heightened care regardless — it stays on your device by default, and we never use it for advertising or sell it to anyone.
Baseline does not currently integrate with Apple HealthKit. If we add HealthKit integration in the future, we will update this policy, HealthKit data will be used only to provide App functionality, and it will never be used for advertising or sold to third parties, in accordance with Apple's guidelines.
9. Children's Privacy
Baseline is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@baselineapp.net and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email (if you have an account) before the changes take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when it was most recently revised. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
